Welcome to OpticsThoughts!

The website you are looking at is sort of a “OpticsThoughts 2.0″, although as far as look at feel goes, it should not be a major difference from the original site.  That having been said, we did change the backend for the site and, hopefully, it will be a bit easier to maintain.

Most of the material here is on the subject of sporting optics: riflescopes, binoculars and spotters.  We will occasionally add some general musing on the firearms, knives and whatever else occupies my mind at that particular time.  Since my day job is in electro-optics and digital imaging, I will also add some camera gear recommendation here and there.

I started out this site primarily to have a venue for my thoughts on sporting optics, but it has expanded some.  Aside from writing about things that interest me, I also serve as a editor for others whose work appears here.

If you want to know more about how this site came to be and he are the people behind it, look into “About Opticsthoughts” on your right.

If all you are looking for is a quick product recommendation here is a shortcut to some of my favourites, by price: Riflescopes, Binoculars, Spotters.

If you would like to comment on any of the articles you need to create an account here.  Contact me if you need help with that.

With that out of the way, I hope you find something useful here and if there is something you think I should add to the site, do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanks for visiting!

Nikon Riflescopes 2015/2016

Every once in a while, I sorta look around the marketplace and see if there is a brand I have not had a chance to pay much attention to in the last couple of years for whatever reason. Early last year, I realized that I have not looked at Nikon very much, largely because I [...]

Rimfire and Airgun scopes, January 2016

One of the trends I have been seeing in the last few years is the growth of airgun shooting.  Oddly enough rimfire shooting took a dive for a bit since rimfire ammo has been virtually impossible to find.  Now, however, the supply has caught up to a certain degree. I wrote an overview of rimfire [...]

Vortex Razor HD 11-33×50 Spotting Scope

This is not so much a new article as a refresh of the older one.  It was written in 2014, but somehow I neglected to post it here. A while back I spent some time looking at the available small spotters and came up with some less than acceptable conclusions the most important one being [...]

SWFA SS: New Scopes for Thanksgiving 2015. First Look.   I usually do not do first look articles all that much since most scopes I look at are new to me and I want to spend a significant amount of time with them prior to saying anything at all. In this case, I am going [...]
