This website is dedicated to reviews and discussion of of all sorts of optical devices. Mostly I talk about weapon sights of all sorts (riflescopes, reflex sights, etc), but there is also some coverage of binoculars, spotting scopes, cameras, various firearms, airguns, knives, training courses and, occasionally, politics, especially as they pertain to 2nd Amendment issues.
I keep advertising light, but there is some. Bills have to be paid and I try to keep my dayjob finances distinctly separate from my gun writing endeavors.
I have presence on Facebook, Youtube and Instagram. Generally, an internet search for Dark Lord of Optics will likely produce all of my latest contributions to internet traffic.
and a few others. If you plan to be purchasing anything from any of them, please start by clicking a link from here. It does not cost you anything extra and it helps me tremendously.
2020 has been an interesting year. Between the sorry state of our politics, the Left finally admitting what they are and COVID-19, nearly everyone’s life has changed in some significant way. I am no exception to that. I have had to make some significant decisions regarding how I want to proceed with my online presence […]
I am officially kicking off the testing of the SwampFox TriHawk Prismatic 3x scope. Here are the first couple of image I posted on Instagram. More to come. View this post on Instagram TriHawk MOA reticle with illumination on and off. I have finally wrapped up with my review of the S&B PMII Dual CC 1-8×24 with MDR-T6 reticle and Vortex Razor Gen3 1-10×24. it is contained in these three videos:
I seldom do posts pertaining to product availability, but in this crazy market we live in, getting some of the AK and AR rifles and products has been interesting. I accidentally noticed that Palmetto has their AK-103 clone miraculously in stock. Not sure for how long. This gun uses the FN barrel, presumably the same […]
I’ve been talking about the Optika6 riflescopes for a little while now and figured I should sorta summarize my thoughts. I have not tested any low powered Optika6 scopes. The scopes I have tested are one 3-18×50 with MRAD1 reticle and two 5-30×56 with MRAD reticle. I designed these reticles for Meopta, but I did […]
Element Optics is a fairly new riflescope company. They are backed by FX Airguns, which is a pretty decent recommendation right there. FX makes exemplary airguns. I met with them during SHOT earlier this year. They seemed like a good group of people, so I figured once they have something to look at I should […]
I’ve been busy as all get out with no time to write anything significant, so I figured a short update is worthwhile. I published my video review of the Leica PRS 5-30×56 riflescope and the full write-up will follow as soon as I get a little time. Hopefully not too long. Here is the Youtube […]
Flashlights is not something I write about a whole lot, but that is a mistake I am going to rectify going forward. I own a ton of flashlights and use them quite extensively and frequently. Some are weapon mounted and some are handheld. I have flashlights from Surefire, Streamlight, Inforce, 4Sevens and a few others. […]
I get asked questions about different brands all the time and, recently, Hensoldt came up a few times. Hensoldt is kind of an odd duck in the civilian market. The brand is very famous and has been around for a long time. It really gets a lot of the mystique from how deeply integrated it […]
By ILya Koshkin Late last year I somehow managed to convince my wife to go take a rifle class with me at Frontsight. The class is basically a close range carbine class that focuses on the fundamentals of aiming and presentation with vast majority of the shooting done within 50 yards off hand. There is […]
